I am looking to expand my movie base and am searching for films. I want to say "High quality", but what do I mean by that? What I mean is that I am looking for films of impact. An example would be Band of Brothers or Grave of the Fireflies, Donnie Darko or Memento. I mean movies that makes one think and feel, that really sucks you into an experience that either lifts your spirits ("Spirited Away"/"Up"), crushes your soul ("The Green Mile"/"The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas"), shifts your perspective or helps you rethink something ("Memento"/"A Beautiful Mind"), or tugs at so many emotions you feel like a drained battery ("The Notebook" <---destroyed a younger me).

The movies I listed here are the majority of truly great films I've watched and I know there are a billion more out there, just waiting to eat my sweet, sweet emotions. Also, while I could totally Google some (and I will) I want to get y'all's opinions and first hand accounts.

My search begins with movies in the "drained battery" or "soul crushing" category.

Life of Pi and Pan's Labyrinth definitely get thumbs up from me.

I was gonna suggest them but people already have! *thinks hard* I also really liked The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Amélie, MILK, and The Mist. Go watch "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" if you want to be depressed. xD

If you're okay with foreign films, Wages of Fear is an excellent film. Very suspenseful. Or if you prefer an Americanized version you could watch Sorcerer. Wages of Fear is by far the better though, in my opinion.
