If you're looking for something like that, then get Merciless Gladiator (S2) mage gear. It's what I wear for my TE uniform (blue and gold) and matches the Alliance colors.

No, they do not need to go back to T9 looks. The T9 sets were almost universally horrible, with only the Alliance leather, Horde clothe, and Alliance plate managing to be even a little bit okay.
